BB30 Ceramic
BB30 is a standard of the 2010's. Frame measures 68mm width and internal diameter measures 42mm. There are little holes located into the frame in order to lock BB30 bearings. Cannondale is the most famous brand using this standard.

A BSA frame alone does not determine which bottom bracket you need. Shimano 24 mm, SRAM DUB 28.99 mm and Rotor 30 mm crank spindles require different bearing interfaces.

BSA, ceramic bearings and compatibility: what matters.
A proven threaded standard
The cups screw into the frame instead of being pressed into place. Road BSA shells are commonly 68 mm wide; some gravel and MTB applications use 73 mm. Always confirm your exact frame specification.
Velo-Perso advice
Ceramic bearings may help reduce friction under suitable conditions, but sealing, grease, preload and maintenance all matter. A high-quality steel bottom bracket can sometimes be the more practical purchase.
Your bike uses BB86 Shimano, not BSA?
Both systems can use a 24 mm crankset spindle, but their frame interfaces are not interchangeable.
Shop BB86 Shimano ceramic → FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Clear answers before you order.
Can I replace a Shimano BSA steel bottom bracket with ceramic?
Yes, provided your frame uses BSA threading and the replacement is designed for your Shimano 24 mm spindle. Confirm the shell width and fitting requirements too.
Can I use a 30 mm BSA bottom bracket for SRAM DUB?
No. SRAM DUB uses a nominal 28.99 mm spindle. Choose the dedicated BSA DUB model instead.
Does a BSA bottom bracket eliminate all creaking?
No. Threaded cups reduce some shell-tolerance issues, but creaking can also come from improper tightening, frame threads, pedals or other interfaces.
How does BSA differ from BB86 and T47?
These are different frame bottom bracket standards. Even with the same Shimano 24 mm crankset, the bottom bracket must match your frame.
Is the installation tool included in 2026?
Not always. Some newer CyclingCeramic threaded models are sold without an installation tool. Check the exact product description and cup-tool specification.
How much efficiency gain do ceramic bearings provide?
Friction losses may be lower in some conditions, but there is no guaranteed watt saving for every setup. Installation quality and sealing can be just as important.

Actual results depend on grease, preload, frame condition and the components compared. There is no universal watt-saving claim that applies to every bike.
A well-sealed steel bottom bracket can be the sensible choice for all-weather riding or a tighter budget. For performance-focused builds, CyclingCeramic and Bikone offer compelling ceramic alternatives.
Browse BB86 steel modelsCompare Shimano BB86 optionsHow do I install and maintain a BB86 bottom bracket?Correct press tool, shell tolerances, lubrication and sealsBB86 is a press-fit system. Cups must be pressed into clean frame surfaces using the correct tool and the manufacturer’s instructions. Never force a cup into place.
Creaking can originate from frame tolerances, misalignment or other components: ceramic bearings do not automatically solve noise. Check the correct spacers, crank preload and seal maintenance.
Read the BB86 guideCheck my setupFrequently asked questionsBB86 vs BB92, replacing stock units, noise and fitAre BB86 and BB92 the same? They share a nominal 41 mm shell bore but not the same shell width. Road BB86 is 86.5 mm; MTB BB92 is wider. Some models fit both — always check the specific product.
Can I keep my existing crankset?Yes, provided you select the BB86 bottom bracket for its exact spindle: 24 mm Shimano or Rotor, 28.99 mm DUB, or 30 mm for relevant Rotor cranks.
Will ceramic bearings eliminate creaking? Not necessarily. Frame tolerances, bearing alignment and correct pressing are often more important than the bearing material.

T47 internal 85.5–86.5 mm: the benchmark arrangement
In this format, the large M47 × 1 threaded shell houses both bearings inside the frame. It is the most frequent T47 configuration across the modern premium road bikes highlighted in our selection. Trek, LOOK and ENVE commonly specify 85.5 mm; several Colnago models use 86.5 mm.
Names such as “T47 internal”, “T47 IN”, “T47i” and “T47/86” refer to this inboard arrangement, provided the actual shell-width fitment is confirmed. A bike labelled simply “T47” does not specify which cups it needs.
Essential check: 85.5 or 86.5 mm refers to the width between the bare shell faces, not the overall width of the installed cups.

Match the crank spindle next
Shimano Hollowtech II (105, Ultegra, Dura-Ace and compatible GRX) and Rotor 24 mm need a T47 internal 24 mm unit. SRAM DUB and compatible QO DUB cranksets require a 28.99 mm version. Actual Rotor 30 mm spindles need their own T47/30 bottom bracket.

T47A: asymmetric, not a standard internal T47
T47A shells are typically around 77 mm wide and are asymmetric, unlike the centred T47 internal 86 mm shell. In the common configuration, the drive-side cup places its bearing externally and the non-drive bearing sits inboard. The left and right cups have different geometries.
Examples, subject to generation
- Factor: T47A OSTRO VAM, MONZA and T47A generations of O2 VAM. Some previous O2/O2 VAM frames use BBright.
- Cervélo: newer Áspero generations and R5-CX use the brand’s asymmetric T47a interface. Some other Cervélo frames used BBright PressFit.

Three checks, in the right order
1. The frame: exact model, generation and bare shell width. T47 threading is M47 × 1, but that alone does not tell you whether bearings are internal, external or asymmetric.
2. The spindle: Shimano 24 mm; Rotor depending on crankset at 24 or 30 mm; SRAM DUB 28.99 mm; older SRAM GXP has a stepped 24/22 mm spindle.
3. Fitting requirements: standard versus Wide/XPLR cranks, spacers, thread direction, grease, tools and recommended tightening torque. T47 is threaded and serviceable, but incorrect installation can damage the frame shell.
Your crankset Spindle What to select Shimano Hollowtech II / Rotor 24 24 mm Correct shell format + dedicated 24 mm version. SRAM DUB / compatible QO DUB 28.99 mm Dedicated T47 DUB with correct frame fit and spacers. Rotor ALDHU / VEGAST / INpower, by spindle 24 or 30 mm Identify the actual spindle before choosing 24 or 30 mm. Older SRAM GXP 24 / 22 mm Dedicated GXP; not interchangeable with Shimano. Why ceramic bearings?
Well-designed ceramic bearings can offer smooth rotation and low friction, but seals, lubricant, cup construction, alignment and maintenance are just as relevant. A watt saving is never automatic. A correctly specified and installed bottom bracket matters more than a premium unit that does not fit.
Frequently asked questions
Will a T47 internal 86 mm BB fit an 85.5 mm frame shell? Yes, provided the bottom bracket manufacturer expressly lists an 85.5–86.5 mm shell range and the correct spindle configuration. Several products in our range support it. Always check the exact product specifications.
Can I use a BB86 PressFit bottom bracket in a T47 frame? No. BB86 is a non-threaded PressFit system; T47 uses M47 × 1 threads. Similar shell widths do not make these standards interchangeable.
Are SRAM DUB and 30 mm spindles interchangeable? No. SRAM DUB uses a 28.99 mm spindle, not 30 mm. Choose the dedicated T47 DUB version and check the crank spacer requirements.
Do all Factor or Cervélo frames use T47A? No. Older generations may use BBright or other standards. Check the exact model, production year and frame shell dimensions.
Do ceramic bearings guarantee a multi-watt saving? No universal watt saving can be promised. Actual losses depend on bearing design, seals, lubrication, condition and installation.
