If you want to improve the efficiency of your Shimano drivetrain without replacing the whole groupset, the CyclingCeramic Pro is a particularly well-balanced solution. It combines oversized 14/19T pulley wheels, ceramic bearings, a carbon cage and solid pulley wheels.
The aim is straightforward: reduce chain articulation, lower rotational resistance and provide a profile better suited to high-speed riding than a conventional derailleur cage.

The chain bends less
Small stock pulley wheels force the chain around a tighter radius. With 14 teeth at the top and 19 at the bottom, the chain runs around a larger diameter and each link articulates through a smaller angle.
The pulley wheels run on ceramic bearings
Both pulley wheels use CyclingCeramic bearings. Their purpose is to reduce rotational resistance while maintaining precise chain guidance.
Solid pulley wheels create a more closed profile
The Pro differs from the Race through its solid pulley wheels. The design is more enclosed and particularly well suited to aero road bikes and speed-focused builds.
You keep a genuinely versatile road bike
Unlike a fully faired solution, the Pro remains compact and practical for everyday use. It makes sense on fast flat roads, rolling terrain and occasional mountain rides alike.
Velo-Perso.com opinion: this cage is particularly well suited to an aero road bike such as a Canyon Aeroad. It offers an excellent compromise between mechanical efficiency and aerodynamic performance: effective at high speed, yet still perfectly appropriate when the pace drops, including occasional mountain riding. Its design also works very well on a time-trial or triathlon bike, although for a highly specialized TT setup we may sometimes prefer the CyclingCeramic Aero cage.

Why 14/19T pulley wheels?
The point of an oversized cage is not to make the derailleur spin faster, but to reduce the repeated articulation imposed on the chain. The larger the pulley wheel, the smaller the bending angle at each chain link.

Each chain link bends less sharply around the pulley wheels.
Lower internal losses
Ceramic bearings complement the efficiency benefit of the oversized geometry.
More coherent at high speed
The solid pulley wheels give the Pro a more closed profile than the Race.

4 spring-tension positions: finer tuning rather than a revolution
Two positions were already enough to adapt spring tension properly. The current four-position design simply gives you more precision when matching cage behaviour to your riding style.

The Pro is particularly relevant for current Shimano road groups:
- Shimano Ultegra Di2 RD-R8150 – 12-speed
- Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 RD-R9250 – 12-speed
It also gives several excellent Shimano 11-speed groups a modern performance upgrade:
- Shimano Ultegra R8000 / R8050
- Shimano Ultegra R8000 SS and GS
- Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 / R9150
- Road cassettes up to 34T

Installation: much easier on current generations
Early oversized cages required more mechanical experience. After several generations of development, CyclingCeramic has made the system considerably easier to install. The removable stop notably simplifies spring handling.
- Generally allow for 2 to 4 additional chain links
- Adjust B-tension after installation
- Check indexing across the full cassette
- Select the spring-tension setting suited to your use
- Use a clean, properly lubricated or waxed chain
Important: incorrect B-tension can cancel out part of the benefit of the upgrade. Final setup matters just as much as fitting the cage itself.

Is this cage a good choice for a Canyon Aeroad?
Yes. This is exactly the kind of bike on which we find the Pro particularly coherent: an aero road bike that often sees high speeds, while still being versatile enough for rolling terrain and mountain riding.
Is the Pro compatible with Ultegra R8150 and Dura-Ace R9250?
Yes. These are its two main Shimano road 12-speed applications.
Is it compatible with Shimano 11-speed groups?
Yes. It is also compatible with Ultegra R8000/R8050 and Dura-Ace R9100/R9150, including the relevant R8000 SS and GS versions.
Why does the scale photo show only 2 spring positions?
The photo was taken with an early Pro version that had two positions. The models currently supplied now have four spring-tension positions.
Pro or Aero for a triathlon or time-trial bike?
The Pro works very well and its design remains fully coherent with this type of bike. For a machine used exclusively for TT or triathlon, however, the Aero cage may be preferred because of its more specialized approach.
Is the Pro still suitable if I also ride in the mountains?
Yes. Its usefulness is not limited to fast courses. It remains perfectly suitable when speed drops and works well on a versatile road bike that occasionally heads into the mountains.
