CyclingCeramic Aero OSPW for Shimano Ultegra Di2 RD-R8150 and Dura-Ace Di2 RD-R9250 (12s). A striking, fully faired carbon cage designed in France for dedicated time-trial and triathlon bikes. Oversized 14/19T aluminium pulleys and grade-3 ceramic bearings reduce drivetrain friction, while the distinctive aerodynamic cover has been wind-tunnel tested. For fast, versatile road bikes, we generally recommend the CyclingCeramic Pro instead.

CyclingCeramic Aero · Shimano Di2 12s · Made in France

The uncompromising aero cage for time-trial and triathlon bikes

A bold, fully faired carbon design that makes a strong visual statement. The CyclingCeramic Aero is deliberately more substantial in appearance than a conventional oversized cage — and its purpose goes beyond looks: oversized 14/19T pulleys, grade-3 ceramic bearings and a wind-tunnel-tested aerodynamic profile.

What the testing actually shows

Measurable gains — with the numbers put in context

~3.3 W

Mechanical efficiency

Manufacturer's test-based estimate for the 14/19T oversized pulley system compared with a conventional short cage.

Combines the oversized-pulley principle and reduced chain tension; not an independent test of this exact retail unit.
~0.3 W

Aero advantage

CyclingCeramic's published static wind-tunnel result for the faired Aero profile compared with a standard cage.

45 km/h · 0° yaw · isolated cage, without bike or rider.
~3.6 W

Combined reference figure

Published total of the two component-level benefits under the manufacturer's specified test assumptions.

A reference figure, not a guaranteed whole-bike or on-road saving.

Data source: CyclingCeramic — Test & Data. These are results from different test methods. Real gains vary with drivetrain condition, chain lubrication, riding speed, yaw, frame and rider.

Why the large, closed shape?

A fairing, not just decoration

The Aero's characteristic broad carbon surface encloses much of the pulley system. It is a more radical visual solution than the open Race or solid-pulley Pro, designed for bikes on which every detail follows an aerodynamic logic.

The wind tunnel confirms a modest but measurable aerodynamic contribution. The major source of predicted efficiency improvement still comes from the larger pulleys and ceramic bearings — not from the carbon cover alone.

Build quality

Precision components, produced in France

Carbon cage structure, CNC-machined aluminium 14/19T pulley wheels and CyclingCeramic grade-3 ceramic bearings. An exceptional finishing component for a carefully built Shimano Di2 racing drivetrain.

Its pronounced shape is intentional: it belongs visually on a time-trial bike, triathlon machine or uncompromising aero project.

Velo-Perso.com opinion

The Aero is not our default recommendation for every road bike. We love its manufacturing quality and highly distinctive design, but its visual bulk makes the most sense on an aero-focused TT or triathlon build. For a fast road bike that must remain versatile — a Canyon Aeroad, for example — we would generally recommend the CyclingCeramic Pro. It retains oversized 14/19T pulleys and ceramic bearings with a cleaner, less extreme profile.

Aero or Pro: choose for the bike you actually ride

Fast, versatile road bikes

CyclingCeramic Pro

Solid 14/19T pulleys, ceramic bearings and carbon cage, but with a less imposing design. Our first choice for fast road riding, rolling terrain and occasional climbing.

Our workshop measurement

126 g on our scale: a striking shape, not an enormous mass

Our photograph documents 126 g for the Aero cage shown. That is a measurement of the photographed unit, rather than a guaranteed weight for every production batch.

Its commanding appearance is therefore more pronounced than its actual weight. If minimal visual bulk is your first priority, the Pro remains the more discreet option.

Compatibility and installation

Designed for these rear derailleurs

  • Shimano Ultegra Di2 RD-R8150 — 12s
  • Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 RD-R9250 — 12s
  • 14T upper / 19T lower pulley wheels

Compatibility refers to the rear derailleur model, not simply the crankset or shifter name. For unusual cassette combinations, check fit before ordering.

Important fitting notes

  • Replaces the stock derailleur cage; retain the original spring and washer as specified by CyclingCeramic.
  • Allow for approximately two additional chain links compared with the original cage, subject to actual drivetrain setup.
  • Check chain length, cage spring tension, B-gap and shifting over the full cassette range.
  • Follow the supplied instructions; professional fitting is advisable if you have not replaced a derailleur cage before.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Aero better than the Pro on a road bike?

Not automatically. Both use the oversized 14/19T concept and ceramic bearings. The Aero adds a more extensive fairing and a very distinctive TT appearance. For a fast road bike used on different terrain, we generally prefer the more versatile Pro.

Does the fairing really save watts?

CyclingCeramic publishes an isolated wind-tunnel result of approximately 0.3 W at 45 km/h and 0° yaw compared with a standard cage. This is an aerodynamic component test, not a guaranteed saving on a complete bike.

Where does the larger drivetrain benefit come from?

Most of the claimed benefit comes from the 14/19T pulley geometry, which reduces chain articulation, and the low-friction bearing system. CyclingCeramic publishes approximately 3.3 W of test-based mechanical savings versus a short cage under its reference conditions.

Will I need a new chain?

Plan for a longer chain than with the standard Shimano cage. The original product guidance calls for about two extra links; confirm the correct length on your specific drivetrain. A replacement chain may therefore be required.

Will it fit Shimano 105 or SRAM AXS?

No compatibility is claimed for those derailleurs on this product page. This specific version is intended for Shimano Ultegra RD-R8150 and Dura-Ace RD-R9250.

Our advice before you order

Building a TT machine? The Aero is the statement piece.

Building an aero road bike you also take into the mountains? Take a closer look at the lighter-looking, more versatile Pro. Both reflect the quality of CyclingCeramic's 14/19T architecture.
