Installation Guide: How to Install a CyclingCeramic BB86 Bottom Bracket
This step-by-step tutorial shows how to replace your stock BB86 bottom bracket with a high-performance CyclingCeramic model. These instructions apply to most road frames using the BB86 standard (Canyon, Giant, Scott, BMC, etc.).
Required Tools:
- Bottom bracket cup extractor (e.g., Park Tool BBT-90.3)
- Hammer
- Assembly grease suitable for carbon or aluminum frames
- Bottom bracket press tool (e.g., Park Tool HHP-3)
- Clean cloth and light degreaser
Step 1: Removing the Existing Bottom Bracket
- Identify the current bottom bracket. Most road bikes come with a plastic Shimano SM-BB92-41B or SM-BB72-41B, especially on 2020–2025 models.
- Insert the Park Tool BBT-90.3 tool into the cup from the pointed end until it clicks into place.
- Using a hammer, gently tap the extractor until the cup is pushed out.
- Repeat on the opposite side to remove the second cup.
Step 2: Preparing the Frame
- Clean and degrease the inner surfaces of the bottom bracket shell using a lint-free cloth.
- Apply a thin, even layer of assembly grease to both the bearing seats and the outer edges of the CyclingCeramic cups.
Step 3: Installing the CyclingCeramic BB86 Bottom Bracket
- Align the left and right cups carefully on each side of the frame.
- Use the bottom bracket press (Park Tool HHP-3) to slowly press each cup into the frame. Do not apply excessive force.
- Verify that the system is well centered and that the bearings rotate smoothly without resistance.
Installation complete. You now have a low-friction, long-lasting bottom bracket, far superior to stock components. Regular maintenance will ensure it performs over tens of thousands of kilometers.
