Much broader Shimano road compatibility

The key evolution of the current Race and Pro is not only visual. The same modern architecture can now cover the main premium Shimano road generations:

  • Shimano Ultegra Di2 RD-R8150 – 12-speed (R8100-series groupset)
  • Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 RD-R9250 – 12-speed (R9200-series groupset)
  • Shimano Ultegra R8000 / R8050 series – 11-speed, relevant variants
  • Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 / R9150 series – 11-speed, relevant variants
  • Road cassettes up to 34T in CyclingCeramic’s intended configurations

Useful clarification: R8100 and R9200 are the current Ultegra and Dura-Ace groupset families; their corresponding Di2 rear derailleurs are the RD-R8150 and RD-R9250. This is why all four references are commonly searched for the same cage upgrade.

Why use oversized 14/19T pulley wheels?

The principle remains straightforward: a larger pulley wheel makes the chain articulate around a larger radius, reducing the bending angle at each link. Ceramic bearings complement this geometry by reducing rotational resistance.

This was already one of the strengths of the first-generation model. The 2026 Race and Pro keep that mechanical principle while improving what matters in everyday ownership: installation, adjustment, compatibility and finish.

Race or Pro: which one should you choose?

Choose the 2026 Race if you want the most versatile, lightweight and customizable option. Its open pulley wheels retain a technical mechanical look, several colors are available, and we measured 98 g on our 2026 black, red and blue stock.

Choose the 2026 Pro if your bike is focused on speed, if you prefer a clean modern build or if you want a more closed visual profile. Its solid pulley wheels give it a more integrated, aero-oriented appearance while remaining fully suitable for a versatile road bike.

Velo-Perso.com’s review

This previous cage was already a strong performance upgrade, but the current versions are more complete. The core mechanical idea has not changed: CyclingCeramic keeps the oversized 14/19T pulleys and ceramic bearings that made the original product worthwhile. What has improved is everything around it: the 2026 generation is easier to install, easier to tune, more versatile across Shimano road generations and much better finished. For a versatile road bike, we favour the Race. For an aero road bike or a cleaner, more integrated build, the Pro with solid pulleys is particularly coherent.

Installation tips for the current Race and Pro

  • The current removable-stop design makes spring handling significantly easier than on early generations.
  • A longer chain than with the stock Shimano cage is generally required; final chain length must be checked on the bike.
  • Set the B-tension after installation to obtain the correct gap between the upper pulley and cassette.
  • Check indexing across the full cassette afterwards.
  • The 4 spring-tension positions allow finer adjustment according to intended use.
