The QO GRAVA is a 1x carbon gravel crankset weighing just 478 g in 170 mm / 40T configuration, with a 28.99 mm DUB-compatible spindle, KevTex™-reinforced carbon arms and a Direct Mount chainring.

QO GRAVA: the QO RACE philosophy adapted to gravel
GRAVA carries over much of what makes the QO RACE and RACE Light interesting: carbon construction, a very integrated design and a 29 mm spindle. Here, QO applies the same approach to a dedicated 1x gravel crankset, with a simpler Direct Mount architecture and reinforcement for off-road impacts.
The appeal comes from how coherent the system is. There are no unnecessary interfaces: carbon crank arms, a CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminium spindle and a chainring mounted directly to the crank. QO claims 478 g for the complete 170 mm / 40T configuration.
KevTex™: carbon protection where gravel needs it
The crank arms feature KevTex™ technology, with Kevlar fibre reinforcement in exposed areas. The aim is to retain the low weight and finish of a carbon crank while adding protection against stones, roots and the impacts that are more common away from tarmac.
QO also uses the dimpled surface treatment seen on its RACE range. The brand presents it as an aerodynamic feature; for a gravel build, we think the more important benefits are the combination of low weight, simplicity, protection and finish.
40, 42 or 44T: which chainring should you choose?
The front chainring should always be considered together with the cassette. On a 1x gravel bike, the tooth count at the front tells only half the story: the ratio between the chainring and the largest sprocket determines how easy your climbing gear really is.

Riding very steep climbs?
With the QO GRAVA, we would favour the 40T and a sufficiently wide-range cassette. An 11-46 is a useful example when your rear derailleur, freehub and drivetrain are compatible. Cassette compatibility is determined by the whole drivetrain, not by the crankset alone.
28.99 mm spindle: DUB compatible, but not “DUB Wide”
The QO GRAVA uses a 28.99 mm spindle, the diameter commonly used by SRAM DUB bottom brackets. It can therefore be installed in many BSA, BB86, BB30, PF30, T47, BB386 EVO and BBRight frames when the correct bottom bracket is selected for the frame.
Important: QO uses a standard road-length spindle here, not a Wide spindle. The manufacturer therefore states that GRAVA is not intended for PF92 / BB92 or BSA92 setups.
If your bike currently uses a Shimano / GRX 24 mm crankset, moving to the QO GRAVA will normally require a different bottom bracket.

Drivetrain and chain compatibility
QO lists the GRAVA as compatible with Shimano 12-speed, SRAM 12-speed and SRAM 13-speed drivetrains. The French distributor also lists Shimano 12-speed, SRAM 12-speed and KMC 12-speed chain compatibility.
The QO GRAVA chainring is a narrow-wide design CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminium and uses the DIN 5480 45x1 Direct Mount interface also used by Rotor Direct Mount components.
What about a power meter?
The simplest option is to use power meter pedals. QO also states that the DIN 5480 interface can work with a number of compatible power-meter spiders; spider and chainring compatibility should be checked before ordering.

Low weight, modern design and simplicity are the real GRAVA strengths
We like the QO GRAVA because it keeps the architecture simple. At a claimed 478 g in 170 mm / 40T, it can build into a very light gravel setup without stacking unnecessary interfaces: carbon arms, a 29 mm spindle and a chainring mounted directly to the crank.
Its design clearly belongs to the same family as QO RACE / RACE Light, but GRAVA makes more sense off-road thanks to its 1x layout and KevTex™ reinforcement. It is a crankset that feels modern because of the complete package and finish, not simply because of a headline weight figure.
The current 40, 42 and 44T range is well suited to fast gravel, although we think the range would benefit from additional chainring sizes in the future. Today, the 40T is our most versatile choice.
One point matters more than anything else: a 1x crankset should always be selected together with the cassette. If your routes include very steep climbs, use a sufficiently wide cassette — for example an 11-46 when your drivetrain supports it — rather than looking only at crank weight or front chainring size.
Useful questions before ordering
Is the QO GRAVA compatible with a SRAM DUB bottom bracket?
Yes in terms of spindle diameter: it uses a 28.99 mm spindle. You still need the bottom bracket that matches the exact frame standard. GRAVA uses a standard road-length spindle rather than a DUB Wide architecture.
Can I replace a Shimano GRX crankset with the QO GRAVA?
On many frames, yes. Shimano / GRX cranksets generally use a 24 mm spindle, however, so moving to the QO GRAVA 28.99 mm spindle will normally require a different bottom bracket.
Which chainring is best for mountainous gravel?
Of the three current options, we would choose the 40T. For very steep climbs, pair it with a wide-range cassette that remains compatible with your rear derailleur.
Can the QO GRAVA be used with a power meter?
The simplest solution is a set of power meter pedals. The DIN 5480 Direct Mount interface can also work with some power-meter spiders, but compatibility should be checked case by case.
