Rotor Q-Rings oval chainring kit for Shimano 12-speed cranksets
Keep your Shimano 105 R7100, Ultegra R8100 or Dura-Ace R9200 crank arms and try the distinctive feel of Rotor Q-Rings oval chainrings. This kit contains both chainrings and their fixing bolts, allowing you to switch to oval rings without replacing the entire crankset.
2 oval chainrings · 4 fixing bolts · 12.5% Q-Rings profile · Made in Spain
What do Rotor oval Q-Rings change?
Rotor Q-Rings use a 12.5% oval profile, making their effective diameter vary throughout the pedal stroke. The aim is to redistribute resistance between the stronger and weaker portions of each revolution. Some riders particularly appreciate the feeling at moderate cadence, on climbs or when accelerating.
Results depend on the rider, cadence and position: oval chainrings do not guarantee extra watts. Read our in-depth guide to oval chainrings, testing and real-world benefits for a more detailed assessment.
Velo-Perso recommendation
If you already own a Shimano 12-speed crankset, this kit offers an affordable way to experience Q-Rings while retaining your crank arms, axle and bottom bracket. Remember that the Q-Rings mounting position is fixed on Shimano four-arm cranksets. If adjusting the oval orientation (OCP) matters to you, choose a suitable Rotor crankset instead.
Compatibility: Shimano 105, Ultegra and Dura-Ace 12-speed
- Shimano 105 FC-R7100: four-arm 12-speed road crankset.
- Shimano Ultegra FC-R8100: four-arm 12-speed road crankset.
- Shimano Dura-Ace FC-R9200: four-arm 12-speed road crankset.
- Shimano integrated power meter versions (FC-R8100-P / FC-R9200-P): please have the exact fit checked before ordering.
This kit is aimed at Shimano 12-speed cranksets. For an older crank generation or an 11-speed setup, first check your precise crank reference. You can also browse our full Shimano 11/12-speed chainring range.
What is in the box? How do I install it?
Kit contents:

Crankset, crank arms, chain and cosmetic arm covers are not included.
• 1 Rotor oval Q-Rings outer chainring in the selected tooth count
• 1 Rotor oval Q-Rings inner chainring in the selected tooth count
• 1 set of 4 chainring bolts
Crankset, crank arms, chain and cosmetic arm covers are not included.
The included bolts are intended for a conventional installation. If you prefer the integrated appearance of dedicated Ultegra R8100 or Dura-Ace R9200 arm covers, see our Rotor Q-Rings chainring kit with R8100/R9200 covers.
When fitting the rings, follow Rotor’s specified mounting orientation and tightening torque. Check and, if needed, readjust the front derailleur height: the radius of an oval ring changes through each revolution. Also check chain length, the selected tooth combination and front shifting.
Which gearing should you choose: 50/34 or 52/36?
- 50/34: compact gearing for climbing, longer mountain rides and all-round use.
- 52/36: a versatile choice for quicker roads, with useful gearing for climbs.
- Other ratios: choose from combinations actually offered in the product selectors and check suitability for your drivetrain.
Not sure which pair to choose? See our 50/34 vs 52/36 crankset guide. If you prefer round rings, explore the Rotor NOQ round chainring kit for Shimano 12-speed.

Frequently asked questions about Rotor Q-Rings for Shimano
Do Rotor Q-Rings fit Shimano 105 R7100, Ultegra R8100 and Dura-Ace R9200 cranksets?
Yes. This kit is intended for four-arm Shimano 12-speed road cranksets FC-R7100, FC-R8100 and FC-R9200. For Shimano cranksets with an integrated power meter (-P models), have the exact setup checked before ordering.
What is included in this Rotor Q-Rings kit?
One oval inner chainring, one oval outer chainring and four chainring bolts. The dedicated Ultegra R8100 and Dura-Ace R9200 cosmetic covers are not included.
Can I adjust the OCP position on a Shimano crankset?
No. On Shimano four-arm cranksets, the oval chainrings have a fixed mounting position. If you want adjustable OCP positions, choose a compatible complete Rotor crankset.
How do Rotor Q-Rings differ from round NOQ chainrings?
Q-Rings use a 12.5% oval profile, so their effective diameter varies during the pedal stroke. NOQ chainrings are round. The preferred option depends largely on pedalling feel and individual preference.
Do I need to replace the front derailleur or chain?
Not necessarily if your Shimano 12-speed drivetrain is in good condition and your chosen gearing is suitable. After installation, check front derailleur height and adjustment, chain length and shifting performance.
Should I choose 50/34, 52/36 or another gearing combination?
50/34 is well suited to climbing and long mountain rides, while 52/36 offers a versatile road setup. Choose a chainring pair actually available in the product selectors and suitable for your drivetrain.
Do oval chainrings automatically increase power output?
No. Some riders prefer the change in pedalling feel and the way resistance varies through the dead spots, but measurable power gains are not universal or guaranteed.
