Why choose QO GRAVA crank arms without a chainring?
QO GRAVA is an attractive option for riders building a lightweight carbon gravel crankset without having to purchase a predefined complete assembly. You get both carbon crank arms and the spindle and can choose the chainring separately to match your gearing, drivetrain and intended terrain.
QO quotes 376 g for the 170 mm crank arms and spindle. By comparison, the complete GRAVA 170 mm crankset with a 40-tooth chainring is quoted at 478 g. Those figures refer to two different product configurations.
Included: QO GRAVA left and right carbon crank arms + CNC-machined 28.99 mm alloy spindle.
Not included: chainring, bottom bracket, pedals or power meter.
Not included: chainring, bottom bracket, pedals or power meter.
KevTex™ carbon construction, tuned for gravel
GRAVA carbon crank arms feature KevTex™ reinforcement, combining Kevlar fibre with carbon construction in exposed areas near the arm ends. The design targets the demands of gravel riding, where rough surfaces, stone strikes and long days in the saddle put components to the test.
Gloss carbon, distinctive holographic QO graphics and surface dimples give these crank arms their unmistakable finish. More importantly, GRAVA combines low weight, stiffness and adaptable component choice for fast gravel and all-road builds.
Chainring fit: ROTOR-style Direct Mount, not SRAM 8-bolt
These cranks use the DIN 5480 45×1 Direct Mount interface, also associated with ROTOR Direct Mount components. They work with suitable QO GRAVA chainrings and may accept other chainrings or spiders using the exact interface, provided their offset, chainline and drivetrain compatibility are verified.
For a 1x gravel setup
QO offers GRAVA 40T, 42T and 44T chainrings. Buying crank arms separately lets you pick the right gear range for your cassette and terrain rather than accepting a fixed combination.
If you want power measurement
Power-meter pedals are the most straightforward option. Some DIN 5480 power-meter spiders may also fit, but always check the specific spider, chainring and resulting chainline before ordering.
Important: DIN 5480 is not the SRAM 8-bolt mounting standard. Sharing the DIN 5480 interface alone does not guarantee compatibility with every spider, chainring or drivetrain.
28.99 mm DUB spindle: choose the correct bottom bracket
The CNC-machined alloy spindle has a 28.99 mm diameter, matching the diameter used by SRAM DUB bottom brackets. It can be installed in many road and gravel frames (BSA 68, BB86/PF86.5, BB30, PF30, T47, BB386 EVO, BBRight and others) when the exact frame-compatible DUB bottom bracket is used.
Replacing a 24 mm Shimano GRX crankset will normally require a different bottom bracket. Spindle diameter alone is not enough: frame shell width, spacers, chainstay clearance and chainline still need checking.
Not DUB Wide: QO specifies a standard road-length spindle rather than a Wide version. According to QO, these cranks do not suit PF92 / BB92 or BSA92 applications. Do not assume interchangeability with SRAM DUB Wide cranksets.
Crank length and drivetrain considerations
- 165 mm: an appealing option for extra pedal clearance and fluid movement through technical sections.
- 170 mm: an excellent all-round choice and the reference length for the quoted 376 g system weight.
- 172.5 mm: suitable for riders who prefer to retain their existing crank length.
QO specifies a 153 mm Q-factor. With the original QO GRAVA chainring, the brand quotes a 47 mm chainline for the complete crankset; using another ring or spider may change it. Shimano 12-speed, SRAM 12-speed and SRAM 13-speed drivetrain compatibility depends on the final chainring and chain combination, not just the crank arms.

VELO-PERSO.COM / OUR EXPERT VIEW
Velo-Perso’s view: a strong base for a custom carbon gravel crankset
At a claimed 376 g for 170 mm crank arms and spindle, the GRAVA is a compelling starting point for a lightweight gravel drivetrain without committing to a fixed chainring. The DIN 5480 interface provides useful component flexibility as long as the chainring, offset and drivetrain are carefully matched.
Before ordering, our priority is to identify your exact frame bottom bracket and intended chainring. That is the best way to enjoy a lightweight custom setup without installation surprises.
QO GRAVA crank arms — frequently asked questions
Does this QO GRAVA crank arm set include a chainring?
No. This product includes both GRAVA carbon crank arms and the 28.99 mm spindle, but no chainring or bottom bracket.
How much do QO GRAVA carbon crank arms and spindle weigh?
QO quotes 376 g for the 170 mm crank arms and spindle. The 478 g figure refers to the complete 170 mm crankset with a 40T chainring.
Are these cranks compatible with SRAM DUB bottom brackets?
They use the 28.99 mm DUB spindle diameter, provided the bottom bracket exactly matches the frame and the standard-length, non-Wide spindle is suitable. QO excludes PF92/BB92 and BSA92 setups.
Can I install a ROTOR Direct Mount chainring?
The interface is DIN 5480 45×1, the ROTOR-style Direct Mount standard. Chainring geometry, offset and chainline must be verified for the specific combination.
Can I use a power meter with QO GRAVA cranks?
Yes. Power-meter pedals are the simplest option. Certain DIN 5480 power-meter spiders may also be compatible, subject to specific spider and chainring checks.
Weight and dimensions are manufacturer-stated for the configurations indicated. Confirm your bicycle and associated components before installation.
